ANNOUNCING the 2020 Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival, a three-day event taking place at multiple venues across the Coastal Bend, featuring 30+ songwriters, including ADAM CARROLL & CHRIS CARROLL, JAIMEE HARRIS, MICHAEL O’CONNOR & JEFF PLANKENHORN (more songwriters & performers to be announced soon.)

We are accepting submissions to perform at the 2020 #CCSongwritersFestival until Nov. 1, 2019. To submit, GO HERE.

Early and pre-sale tickets and passes will be on sale soon beginning November 1, 2019.

This past weekend, we held the 2019 #CCSongwritersFestival, our second one. We hosted 39 songwriters over a three-day period, with three concerts, two after parties, three workshops, at six different local venues.

We had over a dozen local songwriters, and songwriters from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Fredericksburg, Bandera, Divine, and several cities in between! Our crowd was local, and Texan, and beyond, with many coming in and spending the weekend in the Coastal Bend, some — for the very first time.

Personally, I am humbled by the feedback we’ve gotten thus far, that what we did was magical, successful, something that’s needed for our community…and (what really hits me in the feels) inspiring.

Thank you to all 39 songwriters, each and every one of you were integral to the sum of what our festival became. Your songs, and the stories behind them, define why we do what we do.

I want to especially thank Walt Wilkins, Susan Gibson, and George Ensle for their amazing workshops given on the craft of songwriting on Saturday.

To our venues, The Churchyard, Executive Surf Club, Texas Surf Museum, The Exchange – Corpus Christi, The Gold Fish, and Aloft Corpus Christi — you were amazing partners. Thank you for all of your support this year, and we look forward to 2020!

To our sponsors, Port Corpus Christi, Physicians Premier Emergency Room, 106-5 The Shark, Rockport Center for the Arts, Pecan Grove Store, Wild Horse Lodge, Chef Tony’s Custom Cuisine, Bellino’s Ristorante Italiano, Seaman Financial Services, House of Rock, Lorelei Brewing Company, Lazy Beach Brewing, Dripping Springs Vodka and Sound Vibrations — your unwavering support of original music in Corpus Christi is inspiring! Thank you for all you do for our community!

To our volunteers, Jan Penter Canamore, Lisa Beck Crawford, Rick Hoefel, Chelsea Wilmot Photography, Neil Peterson, Julie, and everyone else who helped keep the machine moving this weekend — your tireless efforts were priceless, and we are forever in debt to you!

To our gracious housing hosts, Donna Bailey, Kelly Hansen, and Rick Hoefel — our songwriters LOVED the weekend they spent here, mostly, I think, because they had a warm bed, and your gracious hospitality to come back to!

Last but not least, I personally want to thank Abby Janca Wieland for the hundreds of hours she put in behind the scenes to pull this year off. And Garrett Wieland, as VP’s go, you’re the best! David Martinez, longtime friend, there’s no one else I’d rather work with to get things done!

This year was everything we hoped it would be and more. And I know I’m not alone in this, Presidents Day Weekend 2020 is going to be legendary!

So mark your calendars. The 2020 Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival will be Feb. 14-16!
Be a part of it! 🙏🙏🙏

The 1st Annual Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival, Music Awards & Conference — Feb. 16-18, 2018.

As we settle into our stunned post-Festival haze, let us THANK every single one of you for making the #CCSongwritersFestival 2018 the success it was always meant to be. We took a gamble — and because of the support of our community, the support of our sponsors, and the support of the songwriting community at large — that gamble paid off. It also cemented the certainty that we will be back next year, bigger and better — just for you!

Personally, I want to thank my wife, VANESSA, for all that she does, as a mother, teacher, and CC Songwriters Board Member — she pulled this Festival forward, and I don’t think any of us would have survived without her (your love of music shines through every moment of every day, and that shaped what this festival would become, one full of love, for each other, and for the songs; Garrett Wieland— your knowledge and unwavering passion infused an energy into this year’s event that made sure it was a success, thank you for being VP; David Martinez, for being the first Board Member, and sticking with us through all of the chaos of building this Festival from the ground up; TImothy Doc Carter, for being the heart of this festival, period; RICK HOEFEL, for taking me to lunch at Sugarbakers a year ago, and reminding me of the need this community had for a songwriter’s Festival; and finally, to ABBY WIELAND, Garrett’s better half — you came in late in the game, when we were almost at our most chaotic, parted the waters, and delivered this Festival into the home stretch. Thanks for finally completing the Board, and making us a stronger organization with your presence!

We will see you next year, Corpus Christi. We promise.

— Jimmy

ANNOUNCING Award-winning songwriter Susan Gibson (“Wide Open Spaces”) as our festival headliner, for Sunday, Feb. 18 at Executive Surf Club.

He pens his own brand of StorySongs, powerfully crafted and played with his unique finger picking style on his vintage Martin D-35 and Fender Resonator guitar. He is celebrating 50 years as a performing songwriter and in February 2017 was inducted into the Houston Folk Music Archives at Rice University. He has won numerous songwriting awards, been awarded Government grants to teach children through the Artist in the Schools program, and released albums and CDs in the US and Europe, including a Movie–in-Song CD, “Small Town Sundown”, based on his original story, which he performs as a one man “Songplay.” George is the originator and songwriting director of PortraitSongs, a custom songwriting service designed to pay tribute and honor loved ones by “Giving them Their Own Song.” He also teaches songwriting workshops, in individual one on one and group sessions.
